Halter recognised by TIME in its annual Best Inventions list for 2025

We’re very proud to have been recognised by TIME in its annual Best Inventions list!TIME, the New York City-based media company and publisher of TIME Magazine for over a century, named Halter’s app and collar in the ‘100 Special Mentions’ section of its annual list of global groundbreaking inventions for 2025. https://time.com/collections/best-inventions-special-mentions/7320802/halter/?filters=agriculture

TIME wrote: “New Zealand-based Halter makes wireless smart collars that allow for the virtual guiding and monitoring of cattle herds. In August, the company announced a partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to expand the tech’s use stateside by ranchers working on BLM-managed public lands.’’

TIME’s journalists were referring to Halter’s collaboration with US public land managers to utilise its virtual fencing technology to allow for large-scale recreation while supporting productive agriculture. The first ranch to join the partnership was Cotoni-Coast Dairies in California, a BLM-managed land that’s become a new national monument.

For over two decades, TIME Best Inventions has recognised products, software, and services shaping our future - from breakthroughs in science and technology to innovations that make daily life smarter, easier, and more sustainable.

Judges solicit nominations from TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world, paying special attention to growing fields such as healthcare and AI. Each contender is evaluated on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.

While Halter’s unique system wasn’t exactly ‘invented’ in 2025 (that’d be more like 2016 if we’re getting into the nitty gritty!) we’ve continued to refine and develop our product with the help of our farmers and ranchers. It’s only thanks to them that we’ve received this recognition.
