Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?
Why are you giving Halter away free for a year?

Halter was started to back great Kiwi farmers and we’re proud to be working with hundreds of them every day. Through this competition, we’re looking to back three great pasture farmers who think there’s more to unlock on their farm.

For the year they’ll get Halter for free, the winning farms can drive profitability and sustainability through virtually fencing and shifting their cows, managing pasture more efficiently, and staying on top of mating and animal health.

They’ll also get to collaborate with our teams to make Halter even better as a product - just like our farmers do every time they use the app.

Who’s eligible to win?

You can be in to win if you own a dairy or beef farm in New Zealand, whether you have Halter or not. Note, if you’re an existing Halter farmer, you’re eligible to apply for our customer competition, newly launched for 2026.

You have to be at least 18 years of age to enter. Unfortunately employees and contractors of Halter and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

How many winners are you selecting?

We’re choosing six winners in total:

  • One dairy farm in the North Island
  • One dairy farm in the South Island
  • One beef farm in the North Island
  • One beef farm in the South Island
  • One existing Halter beef farmer
  • One existing Halter dairy farmer
When do applications close? When will the winners be announced?

Applications close on Sunday 14 June, 2026 at midnight. Winners will be announced on Tuesday 4 August, 2026..

What makes a good submission?

This competition isn’t a random selection, so be as descriptive as you can with your answers! We’re looking for farmers who have awesome goals for themselves and their farm, and are keen to push the capabilities on their farm and see a difference. We’ll be taking into consideration things like your motivations and innovativeness, what types of results you want to drive on your farm, and why you’d be a great advocate for Halter - sharing your journey with us.

If you are an existing Halter farmer, we’d love to hear about what your goals are for the next 12 months, how you’d reinvest the cost saving, and what you hope to achieve.

Do I have to visit you at Fieldays? What if I’m not going?

No! You don’t have to visit us at Fieldays to be eligible. But since this competition isn’t a random selection, the more our team knows about you, your farm and your operations, the better we’ll be able to advocate for you during the selection process. If you aren’t coming to Fieldays, get in touch with the rep in your region proactively so they can have a chat with you.

In saying that, we’d love to see you at Fieldays. Come by site E82 to visit us and have a yarn (and a cold one)!
