Our People.

Their Stories.

Every story is unique, and that’s what we love about our team. Your journey at Halter is in your hands.
Toby Hurley
A portrait of Toby, who is a Halter team member.
From litigation to livestock.

Before joining Halter, Toby was a litigation lawyer and in-house counsel. Driven by a passion for solving meaningful problems, he made the move to Halter where in only 2.5 years, he advanced from Associate Product Manager to Head of Pasture, and is now our Director of Product. His transition to Halter has not only propelled his career but also introduced him to an entirely new field.

Dropout ’17→ Head of.. ’22

Ben joined Halter straight out of university - more accurately, while still in university - as our first software engineering hire in 2017. By 2020, he had advanced to Lead Frontend Engineer, and by 2022, he was Head of Product Engineering. Halter’s emphasis on recognising potential and rewarding performance over qualifications has been key to his swift rise, proving that success is driven by results, not credentials.

Manager ’22 → VP ’25

Helen, formerly with Xero, joined Halter as Strategy and Growth Manager in June 2022. In just three years, she’s been promoted three times and now serves as VP of Marketing and Growth, leading Halter’s Marketing and push into new markets.

Andy McLaren

Entry Grad ’17 → Exec ’23

Andy joined Halter in 2017 as a Mechanical Engineering graduate. By 2020, he'd stepped up to lead the Hardware team, and by 2023, he was promoted to the Executive team as VP of Product & Engineering. Along the way, Andy has tackled some of the most challenging hardware problems the company has encountered.

George Howes

A launchpad to MagicBrief.

George started as a designer at Halter. He then moved on to work at Eucalyptus, another Blackbird-backed company in Australia, before founding his own venture, MagicBrief. Halter played a key role in his journey, offering him valuable insights into the workings of an early-stage, high-growth company, which helped him make the leap into entrepreneurship.

Max Olson
Close-up portrait of Max who is a smiling man with blonde hair swept to the side, wearing a black shirt, against a plain gray background.
A launchpad to Vessev.

Max, who co-founded Halter and served as its first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), went on to launch another innovative venture, Vessev. This thriving startup, backed by Blackbird Ventures, sees Max continuing his role as CTO.

Cedric Chong

Farm mapping to finance.

Cedric started his career thinking he’d do investment banking.  But after seeing an open Deployment Operations Mapping role, he decided to take the plunge and use his epic skills in a context where he could have greater impact. 10 months later, Cedric got the opportunity to switch into our Finance team - where his technical skills and passions collided.

Mark Craig
Portrait of Mark who is a bearded man wearing a black cap and a green Halter-branded shirt, smiling at the camera in a warmly lit indoor space with greenery in the background.
From cricket to crops.

How’s this for a career twist? Mark swapped his cricket bat for agtech after 10 years as a professional cricketer. Now, as a Business Development Manager at Halter, he uses his high-performance skills to help Southland farmers unlock their farm’s potential, diving into a thrilling new field.

Dani Findlay
Portrait of Dani who is smiling woman with medium-length dark brown hair, wearing a black Halter-branded shirt, posing in a warmly lit indoor environment.
From employees to herds.

Dani started her career as an employment lawyer but wanted a role with deeper purpose. Joining Halter allowed her to align with her values, and now, as Head of Strategy & Operations, she tackles diverse challenges daily, helping farmers unlock the potential of their pastures to build healthier farms and, ultimately, a healthier planet.

Veronica Gregan
Portrait of V Gregan. She is a woman with her hair tied back, smiling brightly, wearing a pink Halter-branded shirt, photographed indoors with soft lighting.
From consulting to cows.

V previously worked as a consultant at one of the Big 4, thriving in the high-stakes environment. Transitioning to Halter as a Marketing Coordinator and now leading our Performance Marketing function, she’s quickly broadened her expertise in a new industry, leveraging her analytical skills and seizing accelerated growth opportunities in marketing.

    Our operating principles

    trophy emoji
    Here to win
Step 1: Put in the work. Step 2: Do what it takes on the day. This team is here to win. We know winning doesn’t happen by accident - it takes effort, consistency, and discipline, followed by clinical execution when it counts.
    cow face emoji
    Farmers, Ranchers, Animals, Always.
Our customers and their animals are at the heart of everything we do. We go to extreme lengths to do right by them. As long as we have customer love, we can figure the rest out. Our work has real world impact - we’re changing lives, and we don’t take that lightly.
    red race car emoji
    Max velocity is our default
We get it done today. We’re on the clock to achieve our mission, so we narrow our focus to make the boat go faster, and drive impact. This allows us to learn quicker, discover risks earlier, and ultimately outpace our competition. Unless it’s uncomfortable, we’re not moving fast enough.
    arm muscle emoji
    We work hard
We work hard for our mission, our customers, our craft, and our team mates - our work has purpose. Halter wouldn’t exist today if it wasn’t for our work ethic. Working smart is a given, but we know we can’t transform an industry without sheer hard work. The combination of hard work and grit allows us to do more than we thought was possible.

    From first principles
We always seek the optimal answer, not the easy or familiar one. We break problems down to their core, and reason from the ground up. Decisions aren’t made on hierarchy, logic is our currency. We operate on the edge of what’s possible, not because we want to but because our business demands it. This makes first principles an imperative rather than a choice.
    blue polo shirt emoji
Play for the front of the jersey
We’re one team working towards our mission. We back ourselves and celebrate progress, but never let ego get in the way. Humility is non-negotiable. Stay grounded and focused on achieving the mission together, knowing nothing is ever guaranteed.

    Feedback & gratitude
We recognise and appreciate the positives, and take on feedback to grow. It’s easy to say ‘job well done’ - but real gratitude requires intention, and constructive feedback is the highest form of care - requiring us to prioritise others’ growth above our own comfort. It’s the healthy dose of both feedback and gratitude that creates an environment where we all do our best work.
    rock climber emoji
    Embrace discomfort
Our progress is tied to our ability to embrace discomfort. We operate at the edge, never fully comfortable because we push the limits of what’s possible.  Supported by those around us, discomfort is simply proof of progress - it’s celebrated as the place of maximum growth and learning.
smiling face with open hands emoji
    Bring joy
We see joy as a core ingredient of high performance - positivity fuels progress. It won’t always be easy, but we always support each other and find time for fun. Every day we choose how we show up - aiming to lift, not drain, the energy around us - fuelled by a mindset of ‘we get to’, not ‘we have to’.
    handshake emoji
    Absolute ownership
We’re drivers, not passengers.  All of us are empowered to solve problems without being asked, and are 100% accountable for outcomes.  We own our work end-to-end - always doing what we say, backing each other and finding a way if things change.  All of us are owners and we act accordingly.
