Competitor Buy-Out Offer: Terms and Conditions
1. Who is making this offer
This offer is made by Halter Limited, 66 Sale St Auckland ("Halter", "we", "us"). "You" means the farm business that signs a Halter agreement.
2. Offer period
- The offer applies to Halter agreements in New Zealand, signed between 2 November 2026 and 31 December 2026 (inclusive), New Zealand time.
- We will not withdraw or change this offer during the offer period, unless a change in law or a direction from a regulator requires us to. If that happens, we will still honour the offer for any Halter agreement signed before the change is published on halter.co.nz/swap.
3. Who can claim
You can claim if all of the following apply:
- New customer: you are a new Halter customer farming in New Zealand. You have not had an active Halter agreement in the 12 months before signing.
- Switching provider: you currently use virtual fencing or livestock monitoring collars/wearables from another provider, either leased under an existing contract or owned by you.
- Qualifying Halter agreement: you sign a Halter agreement during the offer period for:
- Dairy: a Pro or Unlimited plan, for a minimum term of 36 months and a minimum 100 collars; or
- Beef: a Beef Pro plan, for a term of 60 months and a minimum of 100 collars.
- Full switch: you remove all of your other provider's collars from your animals on the farm(s) covered by your Halter agreement by the date your Halter collars are fitted.
- One claim per farm business. A farm business can make one claim under this offer, covering all farms on its Halter agreement.
4. What "buy-out fee" means
- "Buy-out fee" means the early termination fee your current provider charges, under your existing contract, to end that contract early.
- The buy-out fee does not include:
- subscription or lease fees you owed before the contract ended;
- equipment purchase or finance balances;
- removal, return or shipping costs;
- penalties or damages for breaching that contract;
- interest, late fees or debt collection costs.
5. What we pay
The amount depends on your situation. Only one of the options below applies to each claim.
5.1 Leased collars (dairy)
If you lease collars under an existing contract, we will pay a share of your buy-out fee:
Current provider
Share of buy-out fee we pay
Datamars Tru-Test: 100%
Allflex: 50%
Any other provider (including CowManager and smaXtec): 30%
- We count the buy-out fee for up to 36 months of your remaining contract term.
- We pay on the lower of: the number of collars you are replacing, and the number of Halter collars on your agreement. If your buy-out fee covers more collars than this, we reduce the amount in proportion.
- The amount we pay under this clause is capped at 20% of the annual value of your Halter agreement, unless we agree in writing to pay more (see clause 5.4).
5.2 Owned collars (dairy)
If you own your collars, we will pay $37.80 per collar, regardless of how long you have had them.
- We pay on the lower of: the number of owned collars you are replacing, and the number of Halter collars on your agreement.
5.3 Gallagher eShepherd collars (beef)
If you are switching from Gallagher eShepherd collars, we will pay $300 per collar.
- We pay on the lower of: the number of eShepherd collars you are replacing, and the number of Halter collars on your agreement.
- Your Halter deposit is still payable. We apply the credit against your later Halter invoices.
5.4 Higher amounts
Halter, at its sole discretion, may agree in writing to pay more than the amounts above. Any higher amount will be set out in your Halter agreement.
6. How we pay
- We pay the approved amount as a credit against your Halter fees.
- The credit cannot be exchanged for cash.
7. Documents you need to provide
Leased collars (clause 5.1):
- an invoice or written confirmation from your current provider of the buy-out fee, showing your farm name, the amount, the date, the number of collars and the remaining contract term; and
- evidence that your contract has ended, or that you have given notice to end it.
Owned collars (clauses 5.2 and 5.3):
- an invoice, receipt or other proof that you own the collars, showing your farm name and the number of collars.
8. How to claim
- Tell your Halter contact that you want to claim before you sign your Halter agreement, and provide the documents in clause 7.
- We will confirm the approved amount in your Halter agreement.
- We may decline a claim if the documents are incomplete or inaccurate, or you don’t meet Clause 3.
9. Your existing contract
- You are responsible for ending your existing contract in line with its terms, including any notice periods.
- Halter is not a party to that contract and is not giving you advice about it. If you are unsure of your rights or obligations under it, you should get your own advice.
- Halter is not responsible for any amount your current provider charges you, other than the amount we agree to pay under this offer.
10. If your Halter agreement ends early
If your Halter agreement ends within the first 36 months (dairy) / 60 months (beef), other than because of a breach by Halter, or a change in law, we may recover the unused portion of the amount we paid you under this offer.
The unused portion is worked out on a straight-line basis. For example, on a 36-month agreement that ends after 24 months, the unused portion is one-third of the amount paid.
11. Lifetime guarantee and 24/7 support
- Our “lifetime guarantee” is the Hardware Warranty in our Hardware Warranty Policy. It lasts for as long as you keep paying your Halter fees.
- If Halter hardware fails because of a manufacturing defect, we’ll repair or replace it for free (or give you a refund if we can’t). It does not cover things like severe weather, accidents, loss, theft, misuse or normal wear and tear.
- “24/7 support” means a Halter support person is available by phone and in-app, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
12. Combining with other offers
- This offer cannot be combined with any other competitor buy-out offer from Halter.
- Dairy: this offer can be combined with the Gate Conversion Investment and other Halter offers, unless those offers say otherwise.
- Beef: this offer cannot be combined with the Beef months-free buy-out, the Enterprise Beef Credit, or any other months-free offer. It can be combined with other Halter offers, unless those offers say otherwise.
13. Privacy
We collect the documents you provide to check and process your claim. We will use them only for that purpose and to keep records of the offer. We will not share them with your current provider.
