2025 was a huge year for Halter and farmers using virtual fencing across New Zealand, Australia and beyond.
From impressive productivity gains on farm to many product releases, global expansion, and industry recognition, 2025 showed what’s possible when great farmers adopt tech and level up their farm.
2025 by the Numbers: What Halter Farmers Achieved
Halter farmers achieved some incredible results this year. The stats speak for themselves:
- 568,000km of virtual fencing set across the globe - far enough to go to the moon, and halfway back.
- 570 million kilometres walked by Halter cows, equivalent to walking around the Earth over 14,000 times
- 1.49 million hours of cows shifting around the farm - just over 62,000 days, which also means 62,000 days saved not sitting behind cows
- 2.15 million heats automatically detected 🔥
- 85.9% average 3-week submission rate
- 673,403 inseminations recorded
- 75.9% average cycling rate at PSM 🔄
- 3.1 billion hours of cow behaviour data recorded 🤯
- 686,602 tonnes of dry matter harvested with Halter ☘️
New Features Released in 2025
It was another big year of product development thanks to farmer feedback, with major feature releases across reproduction, pasture, and beef farming.
Reproduction 🐮
- Mating dashboard in Halter for Web: more granular behaviour insights to inform mating decisions, including a farm’s forecasted cycling rate
- Mob performance dashboard: view mob behaviours over time in a large, easy-to-use Web dashboard, plus allocation over time
- Mob behaviour alerts: alerts triggered when a mob’s average behaviour crosses custom thresholds, helping catch nutrition issues early
- DeLaval and Jantec integrations added to the drafting gate integrations list
Pasture & Feed Planning 🌱
- Pasture modelling upgrades: significant under-the-hood improvements to AutoAPC calculations and biomass estimation
- Feed Budget: a year-round feed planning tool supporting various stock types, APC projections, and forecasting
- Mob Performance: improved correlation between feed and milk production
The Big Beef Update 🥩
One of the biggest releases of the year was the Big Beef Update - a long-awaited milestone for beef farmers.
This release gave beef farmers more freedom to use virtual fencing without constraints, alongside powerful new functionality and a more intuitive product experience.
What was included?
- Set multiple breaks within one paddock
- Preferentially feed subgroups of cattle
- Set one break across multiple paddocks
- Use previous breaks as templates for new breaks
- Passively remote shift cattle between paddocks
- Choose where cattle will get shifted to in the next break (new area or total area of next break)
- Start the next shift even if there’s another on-going
- Set up multiple scheduled shifts
- Label cattle within a mob
More Product Improvements Farmers Loved 🤓
- Notifications for collars that aren’t moving: alerts when a collar hasn’t detected movement for over an hour
- In-app tips when drawing breaks: live feedback on break shapes to help create the best breaks for the herd
- Map pins: mark hazards, fixes required, or favourite spots on farm to watch the sunset
- Virtual lasso: select and action multiple cattle on the map - turn on LEDs, change mobs, or adjust labels
- Emojis for mob names: because farming should be fun 🚜 🫀 🐮
- Shift back to paddock from the cowshed: especially handy at certain times of the year

- Tower status, delivery, and deployment info now available in-app
- Corporate Dashboard: compare data across multiple farms to support better decision-making 🖥️
Virtual Fencing Goes Live in Three More Australian States 🦘
For years, outdated regulations limited access to virtual fencing in Australia. In December 2025, that changed.
Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia were officially given the green light for virtual fencing.
Farmers are already up and running, with Halter farms now live in NSW. Excitement is high - especially from NSW farmer James Rodgers below, who’s eager to get started with Halter.

Bits and Pieces We're Proud Of 🥰
- Almost 700,000 Halter collars are now live globally - nearly tripling in just 12 months 📈
- An independent study of 10 high-performing Halter dairy farms found on average a 9% increase in pasture eaten, 9.5% more milk solids per hectare, and a 13% lift in profit before tax
- TIME named Halter’s app and collar in the 100 Special Mentions of its annual list of global groundbreaking inventions for 2025
- Halter raised a Series D funding round of USD$100M, accelerating development of tools to make farms more profitable and sustainable 💪🏻
- Halter Founder and CEO Craig Piggott was featured on the cover of Forbes, where he chatted through our path from Morrinsville to Missouri, and how the tech is transforming cattle farming 🐮
Looking Ahead to 2026
We’re incredibly grateful for the support of farmers throughout 2025. Building tools that genuinely increase productivity and value on farm is what drives the Halter team every day.
We can’t wait to see what 2026 brings - and what farmers will achieve next with Halter.
