Physical fencing has been a barrier to rotational grazing on beef farms. It’s been expensive, labour intensive, and restrictive.
We’re excited to bring our world-leading virtual fencing technology to the beef industry. Now available in New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
Utilise more grass
Gain highly productive land on your farm by growing and harvesting more grass in previously under-utilised areas. Forget the constraints, costs, and maintenance of physical fencing and get time back to optimise your farm.
Finally, you can make the most of every square metre with Halter.
Fence anywhere for less
With endless kms of fencing in your pocket, you can adapt your farm infrastructure for no extra cost. Step into a world of unconstrained fencing.
Enter a new era of profitability
Increase the quality and quantity of feed grown to preferentially feed your animals and creep graze your calves for optimal outcomes. Real-time cattle locations and grazing heat maps help you make the best decisions for your farm.

Founded in 2016, our world-leading solar-powered collars for livestock enable farmers to virtually fence their pastures and monitor their stock. Our dedicated team cares deeply about the future of farming. We empower farmers to optimise productivity, protect waterways, and care for their animals.
After mapping your farm, everything you need will be delivered, ready for you to get Halter set up.
Easily install your towers, then collar your cattle. Your Halter system is now good to go.
Our expert team guides you through getting started in the app and how to train your herd. Then, you’re ready to start virtual fencing and shifting.
We know farming never stops, so why should we. Our expert team are there for you around the clock, 365 days-a-year.
"Your customer service is second to none, I had a call from customer support at 4am asking if everything was okay. I didn't even know the power was out"

Maximise your land with unlimited fencing in your pocket. Halter’s smart collars and app let you draw, move and remove fences in minutes.
Subdivide paddocks and shift cattle more frequently. Vibration cues aid cattle in shifting so you can graze flexibly without the constraints of labour and physical fencing.
Halter removes a handful of the barriers that have made rotational grazing impractical: cost, time and logistics.
With the app, you can create and move virtual fences in a few taps - so you can graze your land how you want.
Graze out areas you previously struggled to get pressure on. By utilising smaller breaks with regular shifts, you can maintain grazing pressure and promote better quality regrowth.
Draw your breaks precisely using either m² per head, area (ha), or kg/DM per head to allocate accurately. No more mental math or estimates.
Whether you want to increase individual weight gain and move cattle off quicker, or carry more stock on the same land, virtual fencing and shifting helps you grow more grass and farm the way you’ve always wanted.
Make sure calves get access to the best feed first. Virtual fences mean calves are free to creep graze ahead, while mums are held in their break.
Hit the right spots to clean up tag and leave higher quality feed for sheep.

The ergonomic, durable and sleek solar-powered collars transmit data to and from the nearest tower.
Easily installable solar-powered towers send data between the collars and the app.
The easy-to-use mobile app gives you a bird’s-eye view of your farm. Create virtual fences and remotely manage and shift stock.
Farming never stops, so why should we? Our NZ-based team are experts that know farming like the back of their hands. They’re here to support you 365 days a year.
Our solar-powered collars & towers have been designed for durability throughout the seasons. But, if a collar or tower does break, we’ll replace it as part of your subscription*.
We’re constantly working with farmers to improve Halter and have a dedicated research & development budget to build new features that drive even more productivity on your farm.
After 10 years of developing virtual fencing and remote shifting technology for dairy farms, we've taken these learnings and built a dedicated product for beef operations.
We worked closely with partnership farms and industry to understand the unique challenges beef farms face, and launched our easy to use virtual fencing and remote shifting as a result. Just like with dairy, we'll continue to add to our features, based on the feedback we get from beef farmers.
Beef cattle are trained to the Halter system over 7 to 10 days. Once cattle are trained, they respond primarily to sound and vibration cues.
When cattle are grazing within a virtual break, they do not receive any collar cues. If they step outside of the break, a sound cue will play from either the right or left side of the collar, directing them away from the sound and back into the virtual break.
If they ignore the sound cues, they will receive a low-energy electric pulse (1/10th of the regulated maximum energy of an electric fence) which leads them to step back into the virtual break area.
When it’s time to shift to their next break, a vibration cue will let cattle know when they’re facing the right direction (i.e. towards the new break), which encourages them to move to the fresh grass.
Please note that Halter's collar cues for dairy cows are different to those used for beef cattle.
Our system is designed for remote locations. It uses solar-powered towers that don’t need cell coverage, providing reliable performance no matter where your farm is located.
Only cattle. No sheep, goats or horses sorry!
Halter collars and towers are the result of nearly 10 years of research and development.
Dual speakers deliver clear left–right sound cues and a vibration confirms which direction to walk, so cattle quickly learn predictable, controllable guidance. The solar-powered panels are on the top of the collar, where they get maximum light exposure across the day. That position helps keep collars charged more reliably through short winter days and shaded grazing.
Halter towers are solar-powered and easy to install, giving you full-property coverage so collars can always receive instructions and transmit data.
As a Halter farmer, you’ll have a dedicated Territory Manager based in your region. They’ll work with you to make sure you’re getting the most out of the Halter system, with practical guidance and ongoing check-ins.
You’ll also have access to our 24/7 New Zealand-based customer support team via the Halter app. They’ll help with day-to-day questions quickly and general app support.
