Virtual fencing in Victoria

A new era for Victoria farmers is on the horizon

Farmers in New South Wales recently received the exciting news that virtual fencing will be permitted in 2025. This technology is also already allowed in other states in Australia.

While this is great news for NSW, farmers in Victoria are still missing out, however we’re optimistic of changes being made to regulations to allow us to serve farmers in Victoria in the future.

At Halter, we're deeply invested in Victoria. For over two years, we've been working very closely with the Victorian Government and with leading industry groups to advocate for virtual fencing to be permitted.

We're committed to being ready to work with you the moment the regulations changes.

Victoria’s Agriculture Minister, Ros Spence MP (in blue) recently visited the Ellinbank Smartfarm in Gippsland to see Halter technology in action.
Halter has been operating at Ellinbank for more than a year as part of a demonstration project, as the Victorian Government considers allowing all Victorian farmers to access virtual fencing systems.

So, why Halter?

Halter is more than just virtual fencing - it’s the leading operating system for pasture-based farming. The system helps farmers:

  • Increase productivity by increasing pasture utilisation with virtual fencing and herding
  • Significantly reduce labour by automating routine jobs like fencing and shifting animals
  • Care for their animals better with continuous behaviour and location monitoring, and health and fertility alerts, and
  • Be set up to be more resilient and flexible to natural disasters like fires and floods

What’s next for Victoria?

We know many Victorian farmers are keen on virtual fencing systems, so they can be more efficient and productive.

We’re doing everything we can to bring about this change.

If you'd like to be among the first farms in Victoria to get started with Halter once regulations allow, register your interest below.
